Where Wild Horses Roam Free

Assateague Island, Virginia

We went to Assateague Island in Virginia to check out the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and despite our very scary campground that we stayed at, the island was beautiful and full of many hiking trails, bike paths, and WILD HORSES! It was the neatest thing! I wish I could have had the chance to see one up close but I did get to see a bunch grazing in the field from afar.
We were there from Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th and the first morning we woke up to llamas in our back yard! Just hanging out with (what I think was) an ostridge and chowing down on some grub. I was entertained for quite a while just watching them but I was too afraid to get too close because I didn’t want a llama to spit on me! They are notorious for that!

A view from one of our hikes.

If you look closely there is a neat lighthouse in the distance!
And the famous Wild Horses!

On one of our hikes we looked up and a little small little deer was just crossing the path!

More ponies! If you can’t tell, I though they were pretty cool!

A neat lighthouse on the island that was build in the 1800’s

The end to our stay in Assateague Island

Off to the Outer Banks in North Carolina!
